Public Strategy Short-Course

Strategy Short-Course #2 For Goodrich Corporation

Charlotte, NC, April 15, 2010.  Robust Innovations, Inc. has completed its second three-day short-course on Strategy Development for Goodrich Corporation. Training in Robust Innovations’ Structured Creative Problem Solving Approach to strategy was provided to a second group of 20 people in Goodrich’s Executive Development for Global Excellence (EDGE) program. A unique feature was a management simulation. The class was divided into three “management teams” for three of Goodrich’s competitors. Each team then developed a five year strategy for the assigned company. Feedback on this experiential learning method was very positive. Beginning in 2010, the course will be taught by selected graduates of the first two short-courses. They will use Robust Innovations’ instructional materials.

Long-Term Strategy For Goodrich Corporation

Charlotte, NC, November 30, 2009.  Robust Innovations, Inc. has been engaged to lead the development of a comprehensive, long-term strategy for Goodrich Corporation. This will be done over an eight month period beginning in December 2009. Dr. Lee will guide Goodrich’s senior management team through a series of fact finding working sessions that culminate in the preparation of a Goodrich Challenge Map. Strategy challenges will be selected directly from this map. The strategy will be finalized by July 2010.

Strategy Short-Course #1 For Goodrich Corporation

Charlotte, NC, April 25, 2009.  Robust Innovations, Inc. has completed a three-day, in-house short-course on Strategy Development for Goodrich Corporation. Training in Robust Innovations’ Structured Creative Problem Solving Approach to strategy was well received by 20 people in Goodrich’s Executive Development for Global Excellence (EDGE) program. A unique feature was a management simulation. The class played the role of the management team for a Goodrich competitor and developed a five year five- year strategy for this competitor.

Cal Poly College of Engineering Strategy Completed

Charlotte, NC, May 1, 2008. Robust Innovations led the final 1.5 day working session for development of Cal Poly's College of Engineering Strategy. The strategy team, consisting of about 40 members of the faculty and staff, produced a comprehensive challenge map from which they converged on six strategic objectives. They then generated preliminary plans for achieving the objectives. Dean Mohammad Noori described the objectives as "perfect" and expressed his delight that Robust Innovations' planning process had produced concurrence on the objectives across the College of Engineering.

Alignment Modeling For GGB Bearing Technologies

Charlotte, NC, April 1, 2008. Dr. Lee led the Senior Management Team of GGB Bearing Technologies through development of a detailed Alignment Model. This model is described in detail on the "Culture Alignment" page of his web site. The 1.5 day working session produced detailed action plans to align "people" (including training), "culture" and "organization" (including structure and responsibilities) with strategic objectives that were earlier selected from the GGB Challenge map. The team enthusiastically endorsed the effectiveness of the model and the productivity of the working session.

Strategy Development Course

Charlotte, NC, June 25, 2007.  Robust Innovations, Inc. has launched a 5-day short-course on development of integrated business/innovation strategies. This hands-on course teaches skills for applications of Robust Innovations’ Structured Creative Problem Solving Approach to strategy. This is the same process that Dr. Jerry S. Lee, President of Robust Innovations, has applied successfully for Goodrich Corporation, several EnPro Industries Companies, The Ohio Aerospace Institute, the School of Engineering at The California Polytechnic Institute, The Glennan Microsystems Initiative, The Aeronautical Department at Ohio State University, and many others.

This is an in-house course for industrial companies, nonprofit organizations, and academic departments and schools. Each course will include participants from only one organization so that information be shared openly.

Strategy For College Of Engineering At Cal Poly

Charlotte, NC, March 15, 2007.  Robust Innovations, Inc. has been engaged to lead the development of a comprehensive strategy for the College of Engineering for The California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, California. This will be done over a six month period beginning in March. Because of the need for broad understanding and support of the strategy, it was proposed that the strategy team be composed of about forty people, including faculty, staff, and students. Dean Mohammad Noori enthusiastically accepted this recommendation. Working sessions are planned for late-March, June, and August.

Multi-Tier Planning For GGB Bearing Technologies 

Charlotte, NC, February 15, 2007. Robust Innovations, Inc. successfully completed a series of planning and problem solving initiatives for GGB Bearing Technologies, an EnPro Industries company. Over a period of approximately three month in the last half of 2006, Dr. Lee guided the GGB senior management team in the development of a comprehensive, multi-year business strategy. Management then engaged him to guide three separate multifunctional teams to (1) develop of a technical strategy consistent with the business strategy, (2) improve manufacturing efficiency in the U.S. and (3) improve manufacturing efficiency in multiple European operations.

New Strategy For Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI)

Charlotte, NC, January 26, 2007. Robust Innovations, Inc. successfully guided the management team of the Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) in the development of its new strategic plan. OAI is a nonprofit research organization with industrial, academic, and government laboratory stakeholders. Gaining realistic inputs from the stakeholder was a requirement. It was accomplished through 55 face-to-face interviews with leaders of ten Ohio universities, NASA Glenn Research Center, Air Force Research Laboratory, and nine companies. The strategy was then formulated using the Structured CPS process in two working session with OAI’s management team over a two month period.  Subsequently, Dr. Lee reviewed the strategy with OAI’s Board of Trustees on January 24, 2007. The strategy received strong endorsement.

Integrated Strategy For Garlock Sealing Technologies

Charlotte, NC, December 1, 2006.  Robust Innovations completed its responsibility for leading the development of a comprehensive strategy for Garlock Sealing Technologies, an EnPro Industries company. Using the Structured CPS approach, Garlock’s senior management team chose a new five-objective strategy to focus the business over the next 3-5 years. The entire strategy process was complete in three, one and one-half day working sessions over a time span of approximately three months. Additionally, the team completed an alignment model that clarified the roles and responsibilities of both Garlock management and its business unit management teams.

Dr. Lee Begins Affiliation With California Polytechnic Institute (Cal Poly)

Charlotte, NC, November 1, 2006. At the invitation of Dean Mohammad Noori, Dr. Jerry S. Lee, president of Robust Innovations joined the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Engineering at The California Polytechnic Institute in San Luis Obispo, California. In addition to being a member of the Council, Dr. Lee will chair the University-Industry Partnership Committee. This committee has the charter to plan and implement a world-class university-industry partnership program.

Innovation Workshop at Frost and Sullivan Conference

Charlotte, NC, June 23, 2006. Robust Innovations, Inc, OAI, and NineSigma gave a one-half day workshop entitled “Building a Structured Framework for Innovation” at Frost and Sullivan’s 2nd Annual Emerging Technologies, New Product Development and Marketing Innovations Conference, which was held in San Diego on June 19-21. Based on feedback from approximately 50 participants, Frost and Sullivan ranked the workshop as “very good”.

Robust Innovations Presents at 2006 IRI Annual Meeting

Charlotte, NC, May 23, 2006. Dr. Jerry S. Lee gave an invited presentation entitled “Leading Innovation Strategy Planning” today at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Industrial Research Institute (IRI), held at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Charlotte, NC, May 17, 2006. Robust Innovations, Inc announces that this new company is now seeking clients who require substantial improvement in their innovation performance. Dr. Jerry S.
